Sunday Services

We seek to be an inclusive worshipping community, and hold a variety of services across the benefice.

The Eucharist (also known as Holy Communion or the Mass) is our most regular act of worship. We currently celebrate the Eucharist in three ways:

  • Holy Communion is our majority 10am Sunday service: a traditional Eucharist with hymns, which lasts a little over an hour and is followed by refreshments
  • "Cafe Communion" is an especially relaxed Eucharist, with coffee and cake within the service and lots of freedom to move around
  • Holy Communion (BCP) is a quiet service without hymns, following the Book of Common Prayer.

We also have:

  • Family Praise, an informal, relaxed, non-Eucharistic service with lots of singing.

There is one congregation across the parishes of Darenth, Horton Kirby and Sutton-at-Hone, which means that our services move around those three parish churches as follows:

1st Sunday in each month

St Mary's Horton Kirby: DA4 9BN 10am Holy Communion

2nd Sunday in each month

St Margaret's Darenth: DA2 7QY 10am Holy Communion

3rd Sunday in each month

St John's Sutton-at-Hone: DA4 9HA 10am Holy Communion

4th Sunday in each month

Venue rotates: check the website calendar

8.30am Holy Communion (BCP)

10am Family Praise

5th Sunday in each month

Venue rotates: check the website calendar 10am "Cafe Communion"

Everyone is welcome at all of our services. We know that sometimes the idea of coming to church for the first time, or bringing children to church, can cause anxiety. Our Family Praise and "Cafe Communion" services are designed specifically with children and new-comers in mind, and tend to involve more movement and more noise! But everyone is welcome at all of our services, including children, and we don't mind one bit if they are chatty or can't settle. Please bring them along.

Midweek Services

We also hold a Book of Common Prayer Eucharist on Wednesdays at 9.30am at St Margaret's Darenth, although this service is occasionally displaced by other events, so contact a churchwarden in advance to avoid disappointment.

Messy Church takes place on the 2nd Saturday in the month at Sutton Court from 2pm to 4pm. For more information see our Messy Church page or contact the administrator Anne Johnson on 01474 853442.
